Tabloid Sports

Today the children enjoyed participating in our school tabloid sports. The children loved the activities and worked well with their house teams. The activities included: Gumboot throw, water relays, egg and spoon race and many more. Well done ROOM 9 and ROOM 10 children.

Maths

We have been practising addition and subtraction for maths. We have been trying lots of different ways to solve addition and subtraction.

The Little Red Hen Bread Making

We have been retelling the Little Red Hen story. We have made a story map of the story and retold the story to a friend. We 'stepped out' the story while we told it. Please ask your child to tell the story to you.

For Discovery today we made bread like the Little Red Hen. We had to add yeast to water and honey. Then we waited for the bread to rise. We cooked the bread in the oven. We shared the bread at snack time. It was yummy. It was still warm and soft.

We all said "why didn't the animals help the little red hen to make the bread?" It was so fun and easy!

Buddy Reading

Our Year 6-7 buddies visited us on Friday. We have Buddy Reading every second Friday. We read to our buddy and they signed our reading log to show we had read. Then we played a variety of maths and reading games with our new buddies. It is fun getting to know the older children in the school.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

Constable Ross talked to us on Tuesday about Keeping Ourselves Safe. He is visiting again next Tuesday. We talked about feelings and using correct names for parts of our body. Please ask your child about what Constable Ross talked about with us.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

We have Constable Ross visiting in Week 8 and 9 to teach us more about keeping ourselves safe. The children have already covered several of the topics including: Online safety, feelings, home and  the community. Inside their home learning books are some home learning activities to complete. We are looking forward to meeting Constable Ross and learning with him.

Recorder

We have been very lucky to have a recorder specialist coming in to our class to teach us recorder. Jo is an expert at playing the recorder and we have been learning notes B, A and G. Hopefully next week we will be able to play Hot Cross Buns in time for Easter.

Garden Show

Congratulations to our junior team for their fantastic effort in the Oderings School Garden Competition. We gained a silver award for our efforts. A big thank you to parents that brought in milk bottles and donated items towards the garden show.

The children loved walking down to the show yesterday and we enjoyed looking at all of the exhibits. We had 7 wonderful parent helps for our trip. Thank you to Natalia, Andrea, Scarlett, Aaron, Tu, and Nicky for your support with our class on Friday.

Literacy Learning

Circle Time
We practise oral language and social skills at circle time. Today we said something we liked and threw the wool to someone who liked the same thing as us. We ended up with a 'spider web' of wool joining us together with our interests.

 The Very Hungry Caterpillar
We drew a story map of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. We are 'stepping out' the story. Using gestures and actions to tell the story.

 We are being butterflies.

Then we retold our story to a friend.

Library Van
On Wednesday the Library Van came. It was a lovely sunny day to sit outside and share stories together.

If you fill in a form and return it to the office you can get a Christchurch City Libraries Library card and get books out from the Library Van to take home when it visits school again in 3 weeks.
